Amal Anaam
Amal holds responsibility, along with the Programmes & Partnership Director, for the coordination of research as well as supporting the Black Thrive Research Institute and Observatory.
The associated research projects will be multiple and varied in scope, with some being delivered over relatively short periods (of 8 to 12 weeks) and others lasting for much longer periods.

Amal's Background
Amal is a researcher with extensive experience in qualitative and quantitative research, with a specialism in community-based projects and policy evaluation. She has applied a wide range of methodologies including interviews, focus groups, surveys and usability testing to deliver robust insights across sectors such as education, healthcare, energy and government.
Amal has successfully led research initiatives for the Department for Education, NHS England, the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy and the Scottish Government, contributing to evidence-based service design, policy development and strategic decision-making.
Her research experience includes exploring local community needs, addressing systemic health and educational disparities and driving policy reforms. Notably, Amal led research at the Energy Systems Catapult to understand consumer behaviour in low-carbon heating trials and conducted consultations and evidence reviews to inform the introduction of technical based qualifications (T Levels) in the United Kingdom.
Amal is currently completing a PhD in Politics at Durham University.
Research & community programmes involvement
Conducted in-depth research for the Castle Vale Neighbourhood Partnership to inform community development strategies, focusing on inclusive planning and resident empowerment.
Helped to establish a community of thousands of households to test innovative clean energy products, services and policies, including conducting a smart energy innovation trial with fuel-poor households to understand heating behaviour, knowledge and needs.
Led on usability testing for NHS England’s ‘Start for Life’ website in order to enhance accessibility and improvement of the user experience.
Worked with the Department for Education to provide consultations and evaluations on the impact of the introduction of T Levels.
