Tippa's Background
Tippa has been active in the community for over four decades across a broad range of disciplines. In 1978 shortly after leaving school, along with a group of his peers, Tippa helped to develop and lead the Negus Youth Collective, a pioneering youth-led arts and culture community project based in Birmingham.
Tippa went on to be involved in London-based projects and organisations over 26+ years spanning performing arts, youth projects, homelessness, HIV, food projects, mental health and counselling services.
He has chaired several local and national organisations, starting his own community groups and social enterprises; and providing support to other similar organisations, social enterprises and businesses.
He is also well known across the UK and abroad for his campaigning work supporting the call for police, penal and mental health reforms, for an end to custody deaths / killings / abuse, wrongful convictions and the brutality of torture, genocide and capital punishment.
Tippa is a founding member of Catalyst 4 Change, campaign group 4WardEverUK and National Mikey Powell Memorial Family Fund. He's also an active member of The People's Tribunal on Police Killings, and has acted in an advisory capacity to the West Midland Police Independent Advisory Group on Mental Health amongst others.
