The new National Mikey Powell Memorial Family Fund (NMPMFF) Therapy Care Initiative Pilot is set to be launched in January 2026. See flyer here

In June 2025 Catalyst 4 Change were pleased to announce that The National Lottery Community Fund (Awards for All) awarded the NMPMFF £19,984 in grant funding to further the commitments from their Development Plans.

One of the NMPMFF's plans for the future includes Bereavement & Counselling Hubs, ensuring that families affected by custody deaths and killings can get quick, easy and free or subsidised access to mental health, wellbeing and bereavement support in their local area.

The pilot initiative
Part of the recent Lottery grant will support the NMPMFF Therapy Care Initiative Pilot, a 1-year programme that will identify up to 10 recently bereaved UK families that require therapeutic support.

Other Lottery funded work
The recent grant awarded also included some modest staff costs, and a significant allocation for two events in 2026. One will be similar to the May 2023
Families Matter, Caring Matters fun day in Manchester, and the other similar to the November 2023 40.20.1 celebration and campaigner awards held in Birmingham.

Some key advisories:

Applicants will need to have been assisted to access the Therapy Care Initiative's support by one of NMPMFF's Assessment Partners or a recognised community agency or enterprise that supports affected families.

Assessment Partners or a recognised community agency or enterprise will refer families to the NMPMFF engagement team.

Applicants can be from any region within the UK, but if they are not already a registered family with the NMPMFF they would need to do so before applying for support.

The NMPMFF will contribute a fixed amount of £300 towards the agreed therapeutic sessions or a course of support required by the applicants.

Payments would be made directly to the service provider chosen by the family with advice from our partners.

Participating families would also be eligible for an award from the NMPMFF Holiday Fund of £100.00 towards a respite or holiday break.

How participants will be selected!

Referrals will be considered (provided all conditions are met) on a first-come basis, and final decisions made by Tiphany Springer (Engagement & Support Co-ordinator) and Tippa Naphtali (Development & Programmes Manager).
