A Birmingham church leader will help draw up plans to end the injustices suffered by the Windrush generation, and racial inequality in the UK in general.

Bishop Derek Webley will co-chair the new Windrush Cross-Government Working Group alongside Home Secretary Priti Patel.

It is designed to "right the wrongs" suffered by the Windrush generation, after some people were threatened with deportation or actually deported as part of the Government's "hostile environment" policy.

It will also look at inequalities in education, work and health as they affect black people, and black and minority ethnic (BAME) communities in general.

Bishop Webley is a Minister of Religion for the New Testament Church of God. He was District Bishop for Birmingham and Solihull from 1996 to 2014. He is a former President of the Rotary Club of Birmingham and former Chair of the West Midlands Police Authority. He's also a Deputy Lieutenant of the West Midlands, which means he helps to represent the Queen in the region.
