Have you ever taken a book on holiday, read it and that was that, back on the shelf it goes! Oftentimes, we don’t get the opportunity to discuss a book we’ve read, whether we enjoyed it or not. I don’t feel this is the best way to experience literary works by some wonderfully talented Black authors.

"This is why I am looking forward to hosting Deborah’s Black Books Reading Club once a month. It is for those interested in the perspectives of Black and Mixed-Race authors."

How does it work?

We meet via Zoom on the first Friday evening every month.

The remaining dates and times for 2023 are below (all run from 7.30pm to 9.00pm):

5 May  /  2 June  /  7 July  /  4 August  / 1 September

6 October  /  3 November  /  1 December

Who is the group suited for?

It is suited for those aged 16 plus.

There is another group hosted by Dayna - details may follow on Dayna’s Black Books Reading Club for Children.

Recommending books of interest is encouraged and you would be required to answer questions from other members about that book. You’ll be able to give an account of what the book you have read is about. Whether it adheres to the blurb, was it disappointing, boring, or excellently written to feed your imagination. Importantly, what did you learn that you wish to share about the book?

Keeping the cost down for books!

You are free to purchase as many books as you wish, but as we are all watching the pennies, there are ways to keep costs down. Many second-hand bookstores have reasonably priced books. You can borrow from family/friends, and Amazon offer free e-books/audio books for Prime Members and low-priced Kindle books.
