Catalyst is sharing the resources on this page to assist our members and readers identify and access funding for community organisations and good causes in 2023.

The Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) said; "Whatever its size, a charity’s most important need is finance, donations and resources that enable them to provide their services to whomever needs them.

"However, the last few years of austerity and subsequent Government cuts have hit the charity sector particularly hard. Not only have funding grants been cut, donations from the general public have also decreased as people find themselves with less money after they have paid out for the essentials. Recent research into the social landscape shows that that demand for services has increased for four out of five organisations in the last year with only one in seven Chief Executives feeling completely confident that they will be able to manage an increase in services" Read more here >

See listings from The Baobab Foundation:

Baobab was created out of the Black struggle and resilience in the UK, which was catalysed in 2020 by a series of traumatic events, including the murder of George Floyd. Collectively they have mobilised resources from UK trusts, foundations and private businesses to challenge and heal the ongoing experiences of underfunding, marginalisation and anti-blackness.

Their intention is to significantly scale resourcing to Black and Global Majority communities in the UK, contributing to wealth redistribution, equitable access, solidarity and sustainability.

Edge Fund began from the ground up as a participatory grantmaking fund in 2012. The people who set it up had experience as activists or funders, and many as both. If community organising and community development could involve the people affected by decisions, then why couldn’t funding happen the same way?

The capitalist system and the culture surrounding it creates winners and losers. It’s time for the voices of those who have been oppressed and marginalised. If we continue to leave decisions about funding to those who hold the wealth and power, real system change will not occur.
